    Hi Guys,
I have a problem with variable products.
I sell tee-shirts with designs I print on them and the woo commerce creates a different item number for each variation of each shirt. So for a design in three colours on 4 different colour tee-shirts, there will be 60 different items when you include the 5 size options.
I want to only list the three image colours and then have the customer select the size and colour of the tee-shirt in the shop. This way I would only have 3 variations and my site would be hugely different in size. This would make loading infinitely quicker for maintenance and most probably for the customer.
Can anyone help with how to do this without spending more money with an expensive plugin?
I did come up with a solution but it takes the customer to the checkout and not a size colour selection page as I want?
    ciao Brownyn

  • Hello,

One option would be using a product add-on plugin like: https://woocommerce.com/products/product-add-ons

If you are looking for a free solution, there are third-party plugins that are free:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/woo-custom-product-addons/
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/woo-extra-product-options/

    Hi Maykato,

Thank you for your response from the quick look at your solutions I think I have a result to my question.
I just don’t know why WordPress or Woo Commerce could not have offered the same quick solutions??

    Thank you again.

Are the prices for all options the same? For ecample, you don’t charge a bit extra for the larger size?

If so then you can do it with the standard variations:

Design 1 – Any Size – Any Colour
Design 2 – Any Size – Any Colour
Design 3 – Any Size – Any Colour

So you will only have 3 variations.

    Hi Seank123
How is the customer to choose a size, colour with the “Any Size – Any Colour” option?
I have been using the standard Variations giving the option to choose but the amount of individual products has exceeded 18000 for my current 150 odd designs.
I will be interested to hear back from you.

The Any option will show all the options to the customer

    Hi @bronwynh 👋

I see that you don’t want to purchase a plugin for this matter, but the Composite Products plugin automatically pops up in my mind when reading your request.

I believe that it will be a great solution for you as it would make your site quicker and responsive for your customers.

Here is the link to it if you would like to check it out:

    https://woocommerce.com/products/composite-products/

And, if you have any Pre-Sales questions, please get in touch with us at:

    https://woocommerce.com/contact-us/#sales-form

From there, click on the tab “I have a question about a specific extension or theme I’d like to purchase.”

We will be able to help you further there. 🙂

I’ve looked at the Any Option.
Using variable products I don’t seem to be able to apply an any option to it.

    Hi @bronwynh,

Just to follow up on this, when you edit a variable product, in the Product Data > Variations, do you see the Any option?

You can click on the dropdown to select it instead of the attribute values.

Let us know if you’re able to do so on your end.
    Thanks.

OK, I bit the bullet and purchased Composite Products.
I still need to know if you have to initially set up each item as a simple product or a component product.
When I set it up as composite it is really confusing how you get it to function from there.
I’ve looked at the support site but I cannot identify the correct method of set up.
