• We moved over to reCaptcha because bots were finding ways to detect honeypot fields. It always allows me to send, but my boss finds it works for him about 20% of the time, sometimes just spamming the form enough time goes from “Please try again later” to successfully sending the message.

Is there a way we can check if he is simply failing the reCaptcha or another issue is happening?

  • hi @joec002
you can install flamingo and get information about the spam-score.

in addition you can change the threshold, if you need

But anyway i want to advice you that honeypots are a excellent method to detect bots, if the most used honeypot is not effective (because it can be detected by bots, it has a flaw or simply because is the most used and the most targeted) but this doesn’t mean that all honeypots are ineffective!

On the other hand, I have added “honeyforms” to my new plugin and they are actually very effective. A “trap” form will be placed at the beginning of the content (and not trap fields like honeypots) if a bot sends this email it will be banned. It’s actually something like a zeroday trap for bots (because afaik i’m the first to use this method), so I get a very high detection rate with that!
