Cannot seem to restore my website

Hi everyone,

I created a backup of my website using Updraft as my website hosting was coming to an end last year and I didn’t have time to dedicate towards my website.

I have created a fresh new WordPress site with a new host and have downloaded the plugin. I have tried to restore the backup of the old website using the “drop backup files here” but get an error message reading “this file doesn’t appear to be an UpdateDraftPlus Backup archive” even though it is a .gz file.

It is in Win.Rar format

Hi,

UpdraftPlus has this backup format:
backup_date_websitename_randomwordsandletters.gz for database and .zip extension for files.

example: backup_2021-06-23-0830_Your_website_name_here__d3880105d5ca-db.gz

Thanks so much for your reply. I only have one file in my folder when I unzip it. Is that correct? I don’t have them in multiple zip files.

How do I restore my website with this file? I have tried unzipping and uploading and also without unzipping and nothing seems to work.

So I’m a bit stuck as I keep getting this error message.

Hi,

Please see this guide on how to restore website – https://updraftplus.com/faqs/restore-site-updraftplus/

A full backup should include database, themes, plugins, uploads and others.

If you get error message, please take a screenshot or share the exact error message here.

What my folder looks like after it has been unzipped. Just one file in it.

Hi,

Thanks for sending the screenshot.
It appears to me that the filename is not the same as the UpdratPlus backup file format.
This should be the format – backup_date_websitename_randomwordsandletters.gz for database and .zip extension for files.
Please can you double check the backup file?

No that’s the only file in the folder and no zip files.

Backup contains: Files and database (Full backup)

This is the message I have via email once the backup was completed.

I have managed to find a very old backup which has these files individually as you said above.

Can I actually restore from this backup since it’s from an old host and not the new host?

Hi,

Yes, you can if you are using the same domain name/URL as before. If not, then you will need the migrator add-on so all old URL gets updated.
