Administration Email Address Change

Hello,
Complete newb here, I’m trying to change the administration email address in settings. When I specify and save the email address I want to change to I go back into General Settings and see this message:
“This address is used for admin purposes. If you change this, we will send you an email at your new address to confirm it. The new address will not become active until confirmed.”
When I look in my inbox, including my spambox, or even when I search for this email, I find nothing. For some reason I’m not getting it.
Anyone have any ideas as to how I can actually get this changed?
