My site backend started loading really slowly and I was getting errors from Cloudflare saying that my site is down or inaccessible when I tried to edit pages or view WordPress backend screens. My site backend immediately loads quickly if I disable WordFence and the errors go away. I tried restoring WordFence to all default settings, but that didn’t help. The only way I can access the backend of my site effectively right now is to turn off WordFence. This issue hasn’t happened for me with previous versions of WordFence. My hosting company suggested it had something to do with too many CRON jobs running, but they left me to figure out the culprit, so I disabled plugins one by one till I realized WordFence was doing the damage.

Hi @jkrakar, thanks for reaching out to us.

Before making an assessment from my side about whether CRONs are for sure the cause, it’d be great if I could grab a copy of your site diagnostics which you can send to wftest @ wordfence . com. You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

Note: For the fastest response time, please make sure and add any information or questions directly to this topic and not the email address above unless asked.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

Thanks for your reply. Whatever the issue was, it resolved itself. Everything is working normally again today. There must have been a server issue somewhere that was hogging resources in an unusual way.

    Hi @jkrakar,

Thanks for letting us know and that’s good news. We are constantly working on making the plugin faster, perform better, and use less resources, however there are not set amounts of RAM, CPU or database queries that we know Wordfence will definitely require in each use-case or hosting environment. If this happens from time-to-time, it may be due to resources available to your site being choked during a brute force attack or a site scan, so it might be worth seeing if any CRON jobs or Live Traffic activity coincides with periods of slow loading if it happens again.

    Thanks,

    Peter.
