Did anybody understand what I mean?
I have a long list of links, and have experienced your problem. Have even had some disappear – were there yesteryday, now “image coming soon”.
I did manage to get fresh images for some sites. You have to go to thumbshots.com, create an account, then follow “Products -> thumbshot images – > update thumbshots” and type in the address of the site you want.
Problem I’ve noticed is that thumbshots of user accounts won’t update – like a wordpress.com user blog, for example. Perhaps there could be an option in Link Library to specify an alternate image from your own media library for sites that don’t have good thumbshots.
There are a few things that I can see about this:
– If you check the Use Thumbshots.org for dynamic link images option, then Link Library will always get images from the Thumbshots.org site, which may not always be very reliable.
– If you leave that option unchecked and press the Generate Thumbnails and Store Locally button, then Link Library will get images from Thumbshots and store them on your web server. Once this first pass has been done, you are free to replace any of the images that it first got from thumbshots.org with your own, which could have been retrieve from thumbshots or from any other site.
– If thumbshots is not generating a thumbnail for one of your site, then the bullet above would be the method to use to have your own images.
I tried to Generate Thumbnails and Store – and it failed. I created the directory plugins/link-library-images as directed after attempting to generate the first time, added write permissions, and then got a message that thumbs were generated successfully, but the directory was empty and there are no thumbs. But generating the static images sounds preferable. Anything obvious I’m doing wrong?
Same for me the same result too… Thumbnails doesn`t generate.
Sorry for the delay in getting to this one. I have just resolved the problem in version 3.2.5. Please confirm that it works correctly on your end and mark the issue as resolved if it does.
For me it works fine now!
