Hi all, I am testing the plugin WP Super Cache. When I want to try the expert settings I get the warning below. I still get the warning after deactivating Wordfence and even after deleting this plugin. How is this possible and what can I do?

    Thank you.

    Hi @peterpine

This could happen if the firewall for the production website is running on this staging website.

I would like to have a look at your Wordfence diagnostics report. Please go to the top of the “Diagnostics” tab on the Wordfence “Tools” page. There will be a “SEND REPORT BY EMAIL” button to send the diagnostics report. Enter wftest [at] wordfence [dot] com as the email and peterpine as the forum username please.

Once you have emailed me the diagnostics report can you reply here to let me know that it has been sent. This is important in the unlikely event that your installation of WordPress is having an issue with sending mail.

Thank you for your fast reply. I just sent the diagnostics report of the main site since I have removed the plugin form the stage site. In the username I mentioned “peterpine | main site”.

    Hi Peter,

    Thank you for the update.

I will need the diagnostics report for the staging site where the problem exists please.

When you removed the plugin did you enable the option Delete Wordfence tables and data on deactivation before deactivating and deleting Wordfence? If you didn’t then that is good news as the firewall configuration on the staging site will be intact, just install Wordfence again and send the diagnostics report.

I just reinstalled and activated Wordfence on the the stage site and sent the report. I did not delete any tables before deactivating and deleting the plug-in.

    Thank you.

    Hi Peter

    Thank you for the update.

As I suspected the firewall for the production website is running under the staging website.

On both websites, in the Basic Firewall Options section on the All Options page, you will see a button to remove Extended Protection from the firewall. Once you have done that on both websites you will then see a button to optimize the firewall again. Once that has been done on both websites then the problem will be fixed.

The cause of the problem is that the .htaccess file for the production website was copied to the staging website environment.

In the future, if you copy the entire WordPress file system for the production website to the staging website environment, or vice versa, then the same problem will be created. You can prevent this by removing Extended Protection from the firewall on both websites and optimize the firewall again on both websites after the transfer of files has been done.

Thank you. Sorry it took me so long to respond.
I do not see the button on the stage site with the subdomain. Hoewever I do see this option on the main site.

On the subdomain I see the following:
“Existing WAF Installation Detected: You are currently running the Wordfence Web Application Firewall from another WordPress installation. Please configure the firewall to run correctly on this site.”
When I click on the button “Optimize The Wordfence Firewall” I see that I can Include or Override the wordfence-waf.php file. I am not sure what to do.
    Furthermore I get the warning:
“NOTE: If you have separate WordPress installations with Wordfence installed within a subdirectory of this site, it is recommended that you perform the Firewall installation procedure on those sites before this one.”
If I understand correctly I first have to update the firewall of the sub-domain and the of the main site. Correct? And then on the main site click on “Remove extended Protection” followed by optimize it again. Correct?

    Thank you again.

    Hi @peterpine

    Thank you for the update.

In that instance you want to use the OVERRIDE otpion.

Once that has been done then the firewall should be setup correctly on both websites.

Then send me both your diagnostics report. Go to the top of the “Diagnostics” tab on the Wordfence “Tools” page. There will be a “SEND REPORT BY EMAIL” button to send the diagnostics report. Enter wftest [at] wordfence [dot] com as the email and peterpine as the forum username please.

Once you have emailed me both diagnostics reports can you reply here to let me know that they have been sent. This is important in the unlikely event that your installations of WordPress are having an issue with sending mail.
