Flash-sidebar integration? Please advise!

What would you recommend for flash sidebar integration? I would like a sidebar kinda like this one here: http://www.pileup.com/babyart/_top.htm

Must I use flash to accomplish this? Would that be “best practice?”

Any recommendations on a plugin, hack etc… would be deeply appreciated.
