Place ID not accepted!

Hi! I am going through setup instructions.

My business does not list a physical address – as I am a home-based business and do not see customers at my house, nor do I want to list my home address in GMB.

The Place ID finder did not work for me, but I found these instructions to retrieve a Place ID here: https://www.launch2success.com/guide/find-any-google-id/

Following this guide, I come up with a Place ID of ChIJudU-mKf0fVMR2HEhEiZof9U

I entered this into the plugin settings, but it produced an error as follows:

@xroox Please use your business’s name in the Place ID Finder.

As detailed in the requirements, the Place API on returns review data for only physical single locations; not coverage area. If your place doesn’t have a physical location then it will not return any review data through this API.

I’ll reply promptly if your place matches this criteria yet remains invalid.

In the future, I’ll extend the plugin to allow for use of the Google My Business API. I don’t have a time line for this.

As detailed in the requirements, the Place API on returns review data for only physical single locations; not coverage area. If your place doesn’t have a physical location then it will not return any review data through this API.

So basically Google is letting us down – how are reviews related to whether or not you have set a physical address??? Gah.

In the future, I’ll extend the plugin to allow for use of the Google My Business API. I don’t have a time line for this.

AH, so this would allow us to overcome this limitation by using a different API – ie, we could get reviews and ratings for all GMB profiles, regardless of whether or not they have physical locations?

@xroox Yes, you’ve got all of the correct information. I wish it was different and the Places API worked for more place types…
