I am having trouble with a testing site I’m currently building. It seems like every product category page in my site is broken upon loading. After it loads for the first time every product in the first tab loads properly but the add to cart button does not appear. If I try to go to the second tab of the current category I am in the page does not load properly and instead I receive a “WordPress database error: [Unknown column ‘term_relationships.term_taxonomy_id’ in ‘where clause’]” error.

This problem only ever happens when I load up the category for the first time and view products in the default sorting setting though. If I change the sorting type the page reloads and everything starts working properly. The add to cart button is there and I can view the products in the second tab again.

Because this error happens under these specific circumstances I find it hard to tell if it is a database conflict, a theme error or something else entirely.

If anyone has any sort of insight as to why this is happening I would greatly appreciate your help.

  • Hello @fernandocctech ,

Okay, this must be concerning. I can experience the error as well.

A good way to figuring out such issue is by doing a conflict test. Can you please run through these tests and let me know how it goes?

    1. Switch to a default theme i.e. Twenty Twenty / Storefront
    2. Deactivate all plugins except WooCommerce and then activate them one by one to figure out the faulty one.

Test your feature after each activation/deactivation. More details on the conflict test here.

If the above does not help please share your WooCommerce configuration details from wp-admin > WooCommerce > Status so we can understand a bit more about the problem.

    Thank you 🙂

@rur165 Thanks for the tip. changing back to the default theme did fix the problem so at least I am sure it’s a theme conflict. However I really can’t figure out exactly why its conflicting with the product category page specifically when loading the default category and no others.

    Hello @fernandocctech ,

Figuring out a conflict can be a challenging task.

I would recommend you to get in touch with the theme developers. Most of the theme ensures that their code will work with WooCommerce. So, they can debug their own code and make any changes if required.

I hope you find the solution fast.

    Thank you 🙂

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
