If I write a Meta Title with 72 characters (658 pixels) Yoast shows a green light.

If I test the title in Google search results preview tool it tells me the title is too long. If I shorten the title to 63 characters (573 pixels) it tells me it’s OK.

Howcome Yoast gives a green light for title longer than 575 pixels?

@boppar Can you please let us know what the title is you are testing when this occurs so that we can test it?

Also, is the title live on a URL, and if so can you please let us know the URL of the page in question?

The url doesn’t matter. Is’s all the same.
Assume I create e new page and add a title:
“This is a title test. This is a title test. This is a title test. This is a title test. Th”

    Yoast gives a green light:

When testing the same title in Google search results preview tool it gives the result: The title is too long, pixels: 663, characters: 90.

It seems like Yoast gives green light for titles that are way too long.

    Hello,

    Thanks for sharing those screenshots

First, it’s important to note that there’s not a fixed number of characters that Google displays in the search results. According to our research, Google displays approximately 600px. You can read more about this here. How much of the title is displayed depends on factors, like if the search is being performed on mobile or desktop.

We are currently investigating if Google has made any changes to this and will adjust the title length assessment in case it needs to be changed. You can follow the progress of the relevant report here https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/12091.

    Thanks for your reply.

So this has been an issue since more than 2 years.

This means that the green light for title tags can’t be trusted.

We understand the frustration at using a tool that is not providing the expected value. We know the meta description color indicator bar can be improved to bring it into better alignment. We ask that you please make a comment on the repository so that you may be kept aware of updates regarding it. You may need an account in order to make a comment.

I guess if nothing improved in 2 years and 2 months I won’t stay restless waiting.

I know how to solve the problem.
