    Hello there,

I’m planing on creating a subdirectory for my website where I’ll share the same articles but translated in Italian, so the url will be “example.com/it”

From my understanding, I need to install WordPress on this subdirectory in order to achieve my goal.

So, my question is, will I need to create a sitemap for this subdirectory and submit it to Google and have it along with my main domain’s one?

    Thanks a lot

  • Hello!

If it’s a separate WordPress install, then it’s considered a separate site. You’ll have a separate Yoast SEO installation and a separate sitemap index. So you need to submit it to Google as a separate site.

Another option is to use a multilingual plugin to translate your content into another language. This won’t require a new WordPress install. Plugins like https://multilingualpress.org/ and WPML (among others) are compatible with Yoast SEO. You can contact the developers of these plugins for more information.

Thanks a lot @onlyincebu ! I’m trying to work with a separate installation for now. Can I still submit and have the translated website sitemap along with the main website one or do I need to create a separate Google Search Console property?

    Thanks

You want to work on a separate installation. So it will have a separate sitemap. You need to create a new property and submit this sitemap to Google Search Console if you want to track the analytics of that site.
