I am the author of the Gedshow plugin. This plugin allows the upload of a gedcom file (a text file with a .ged file extension). I have added .ged as an allowed file upload type in the mime types. One of my users tried to upload a gedcom file with your plugin enabled and was prevented as the error message said it was a file without a ged extension (I check so that only gedcoms can upload to my plugin). He disabled your plugin and could then upload the gedcom file correctly.

I have loaded your plugin on my development system and did not have any issues and both plugins work together. Does your plugin do something with mime types that may cause this incompatibility? Or is this just a one-off?

Thanks for your report and for the question.

MLA does indeed have “File Extension and MIME Type Processing” features, which can be managed on the Settings/Media Library Assistant Uploads tab.

When MLA is first activated it initializes its MIME Type/file extension table with whatever types and extensions are currently allowed. It then takes over processing, so if Gedshow was added later the .ged extension would not be added to the list.

There are multiple solutions. First, as your user discovered, disabling MLA would restore the original type/extension processing. Second, unchecking the “Enable Upload MIME Type Support” box on the Uploads tab would do the same thing without disabling other MLA features. Third, and recommended, would be to add an entry for the .ged extension to MLA’s table. The Uploads tab has a “Add New Upload MIME Type” area for this purpose. Your user would have to know what MIME Type you associate with the extension.

I hope that answers your question and gives you and your users a solution that works for their applications. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any problems or further questions regarding the above suggestions. Thanks again for the report and for your interest in the plugin.
