Hello. I was testing out your plugin. I want to it to auto create variation SKUs only. I was able to get this to work. EG I would get
    ABC-small
    ABC-medium
    ABC-large

However I need to be able to edit these SKUs. I noticed your plugin locks the SKU field and I cannot set the variation SKU manually. There are products in my shop that need me to manually override the auto sku. I would still like the auto sku created as this saves time but I then want to over ride and edit them as I need. Is this possible?

Why is the variation SKU locked?

  • Hi @katmacau!

Thanks for writing in about Product SKU Generator! I’m happy to help out here. 🙂

As we state in our product documentation, we recommend that you selectively enable or disable our plugin if you need to make some edits.

Please note that editing the product or the slug for the product will generate a new SKU, so I’d recommend disabling the plugin temporarily, making the edits to those generated SKUs (and any other edits to your product) before re-enabling the plugin.

As to why the field is locked when the plugin is active, this is a simple plugin with one purpose — to generate SKUs. It was created to solve the problem of coming up with sensible SKUs for products and so doesn’t necessarily support the possibility of wanting to edit the SKUs. That said, I’ll definitely let my product team know this is something that’s being requested. I’m not sure when or if we’ll be able to integrate it into our plugin, though I do promise that my team will review the request.

Is there anything else I can help out with here? Please don’t hesitate to let me know.

    Thanks!

    Julie 🙂

Thanks Julie. That makes sense. The plugin won’t meet our needs with that setup but appreciate the quick feedback and explanation.

    Hey @katmacau,

No worries. I’m sorry the plugin wouldn’t be a good fit for you at this time. I’ve made a note to my product team about it, though, so it’s possible we’ll see more flexibility in the future.

If you have any other questions, won’t you please come back to me?

    Thanks so much!

    Julie 🙂
