The footnote when hovered uses the whole width of my page. I want to edit the width into a smaller box, but I can’t find anywhere to do this, nor any suggestions in the forum

The setting to limit the tooltip width is under the second dashboard tab: Referrers and tooltips > Tooltip position > Maximum width. Since v2.0.7 (November 6, 2020) it defaults to 450 pixels, but if your first installation was with an older version, the width defaults to unlimited. I don’t like the fullwide tooltips either and set the new default arguing that “The width should be limited to start with, for the box to have shape”.

We’d love to learn where the tooltip max width setting is expected to reside. Currently it is buried under three position settings. Previously the tooltip settings were all in one container, until so many items were added that grouping them in smaller meta boxes started making sense.

On the forum I can only remember a single time that the tooltip width came up, in an unrelated thread, so it would be hard to find and moreover, it was an unsolicited suggestion that wasn’t well received. I’m trying to do a better job than back then.

The plugin is now going to improve thanks to your question triggering an extra settings container for Tooltip dimensions, possibly with some more settings, namely the new aspect ratio property as an option.

In the move, the position calculation should also be debugged, since the jQuery library in use, when it fits the tooltip e.g. to the right window edge, leaves the left edge unchanged, making the tooltip tall instead of moving it leftwards.

Also to note that on mobiles, the width does not work well given the tooltips may hang out of the screen instead of fitting the window. Hopefully that will be solved when the full new jQuery UI library for tooltips is enabled.

Thank you for the topic and for helping push the plugin forward!

    HI

Thanks! This is awesome! The Tooltip Dimensions probably should reside under Referrers and tooltips after Tooltip Position?

    Thanks for the prompt response
