• Hi,

When publishing a couple of posts I assigned them to a category, e.g. “Stories”.

Later I decided I did not want them to be assigned to that category, so I go to the post edit screen for one of the posts, deselect “Stories” from the category list, and update the post.

However, after updating completed, the post remained assigned to the “Stories” category.

How can I remove a post from a category?

This does not work for me using the normal edit, quick edit or bulk edit methods.

    Thanks in advance,
    James

  • Remember to press CTRL and F5 simultaneously when viewing an updated page/site. Or try emptying your browser cache. This should ensure that your web browser fetches a fresh copy of the page rather than serving up an out-dated copy from your own cache.

Still no dice. I have un-checked the category in the editor, hit update, then cleared the cache and rechecked the editor and the category page – the post is still assigned to the category as it was before editing.

    Any ideas?

I have tried multiple different browsers.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?
