    Hi

    Apologise for the noob question.

Just trying to install a blog on my website hosted by namecheap. They have fantastico, so i am using that.
I pressed auto install filled in all the sections: username. passwords etc (do you put in new ones or use the ones i have with the hosting account?)

It all goes through ok and it gave me the address where the blog would be http://www.lightmandalas.co.uk/stained-glass-mosaic-blog/

However when i go to the wordpress log in page for my blog i cannot log in, additionally if i request the password it doesn’t seem to do anything.

When you do the auto install does it automatically create a WP account for you, or should i have done this before hand or something?

    Any advice greatly appreciated

    Cheers

    Pete

  • In my experience, initially doing a Fantastico install is a decision you will regret later. Instead, WordPress has the Famous 5 Minute Install documented on this page:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress
I highly recommend it (i.e. – starting over). Here is why.

To me, the main thing is that hosting your own WordPress involves knowing or learning a few things, most notably FTP, and the fact that WordPress uses files and a database.

Yes, there are tons of web hosts that offer “one click installs” for WordPress. But there are two things wrong with that. (1) They tend to be “non-standard” making them hard to trouble-shoot and even more difficult to upgrade whenever a new version of WordPress comes along. (2) You miss out on the learning opportunity of doing the Install yourself, meaning you will have to learn all this technology later on, when you are in a panic with a problem.

So can i just use the ‘remove’ link and then start again manually or is it more complicated than that?

In my past experience, the one thing that Fantastico is pretty good at is cleaning up after itself, so yes, use Fantastico’s Remove link.
