I am trying to test the checkout on my website and no matter how many times I try to charge my card using Stripe, WooCommerce says “There was an error processing your credit card.” With no other useful information at all.

I spoke to Stripe and they said that it’s a Woocommerce issue because no payments were ever sent to their system, so it’s a flaw that we need to address with WordPress.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

There are zero error logs in the Woocommerce Status panel.

    Hi there!

If you’re using Stripe and followed the instructions in Stripe Documentation to set up the configuration, please follow the steps below and get back to us with more details at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/woocommerce-gateway-stripe so that we can further investigate this in the right forum.

    1. System Status Report

You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.  Once you’ve done that, paste that details into the new ticket you’re creating

    2. Logs for Stripe

There’s built-in logging system enabled in the  Stripe Payment Gateway extension that could help us determine the cause of this behavior. If you haven’t enabled this already, you can enable this in WooCommerce > Settings > Payments > Stripe:

    Log-stripe
    Link to image: https://d.pr/hFKTWt

Once enabled, this logs the transactions and errors in WooCommerce > Status > Logs > Search for  Stripe logs in the drop-down at the top-right section and click on view button. Please copy the logs you’re seeing and also paste them along with your System Status Report on the new ticket.

This will help us track where the problem lies. Note that we will only be able to view logs for actions performed after logging has been enabled. So we wouldn’t be able to track a behavior via log if that occurred before enabling logs for the same.

    Thank you for your understanding.

I’ll mark this topic as solved for now so that we can continue investigating on the new topic.

    Hi,

Our website has been live for many, many years. Stripe said it’s not on their side, or within the plugin, and that they know it is the Woocoommerce plugin sending that message to the cart; and they told us to post it in this forum specifically.

We do not use the plugin you are talking about, we use:

    Stripe For WooCommerce
Version 3.2.9 | By Payment Plugins

But the issue isn’t with the plugin, according to Stripe customer support; which is why they told us to post this here.

If you use the built-in payment gateway PayPal Standard Payment Gateway/, do you still see the same behavior?

If yes, we’d be glad to further investigate this here.

If not, Stripe For WooCommerce is supported at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/woo-stripe-payment/

We cannot troubleshoot that extension here in the core forums. However, if you decide to try Stripe instead, and you still have trouble with the same, we’d be glad to further investigate that at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/woocommerce-gateway-stripe

We do not use that plugin.

Our PayPal sales rep called us a few months ago and said not to use it, and to switch to a specific new one that PayPal developed for Woocommerce called “WooCommerce PayPal Payments”.

    Version 1.0.3 | By WooCommerce

I’m not trying to test my checkout with PayPal though, I’m trying to test it with my company American Express card via Stripe, and the woocoommerce plugin is throwing an error.

I can understand your concerns, but There was an error processing your credit card is not a string that comes from WooCommerce. I’d recommend cross-checking with the support team you reached out to and clarifying about the same.

Irrespective of the string itself, if there is a problem with a specific payment gateway you’re using, the best way forward would be to reach out to the plugin developers directly.

Unless you’re working with a payment gateway that ships built-in with WooCommerce, we will not be able to further assist with it.

    Thanks again for your understanding.
