How to unzip?

    Hello, I already run a wordpress blog and have been for a little less than a year. Im trying to get a new blog layout and in order to do so I have to download the new version of wordpress so I did. Now im trying to do the 5 minute install and im very confused, im not computer smart at all. How do I un-zip the file? Do I have to create a database? I already have I blog and I do not want to mess anything up or delete anything, I just want a new layout. If anyone could give me step by step instructions that would be great

    you can use the windows unzip program by double clicking the zip file
    this is not always a good unzipper, though

    Even though I may sound totally stupid where can you find the zip file to click it?

    ummm…you downloaded it to your computer? What folder?
    If not, click on the “download” link at top right of this page

    Yes I did download it, and right now I found it under my recent downloads folder. The five minute instructions are turning out to be more complicated than I thought.

    Okay ive managed to open and save the file as wp-config.php like it says in step number 3. How would I got about uploading everying in step 4?

    Wait… if you just want a new theme (you said: “I already have I blog and I do not want to mess anything up or delete anything, I just want a new layout”) you wouldn’t download WP. You’d download the theme, unzip it, and upload it to the themes folder on your server.

    ok….. i’ve gone onto wp-configer-example and it says Program to acess this file cannot be found and it asks me to sarch the internet or use a file in my files?

    Really… wow. Okay so would I downloaded the new theme, and I think I unzipped it (is unzipping it just opening it?) And the themes folder on my server… is the server wordpress?

    wow looked right past that

    with themes you can just download the zip without unzipping and install it from your wordpress dashboard under
    Appearance – Add New Themes

    next page, click on
    Upload
