• Hi there, I’m new to WordPress, and am having a problem I haven’t seen come up on the forum.

I’m trying to do my first post – I’ve tried using QuickPress as well as the normal way. Whether I say I want to save to draft or publish it directly, I get the little “I’m doing something” icon, and then it reverts to the regular cursor, but nothing has happened. No new post, no new draft. But no error messages, either.

This happens in both IE and FF, so it does not appear to be a problem with my browser. I have deactivated all plugins.

Do any of you smart people out there have any idea what might be going on?

    Thanks,
    Ian

  • Have you tried:

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

Thanks for the help. Did all 3 things you suggested and the problem persists. Is it possible that somehow my MySQL permissions are bad?

Are there logs generated by wordpress that I could look at to see what the problem might be?

    Thanks again.

If there was a MySQL issue, I’d expect a lot more problems across the site and admin area. However, running a repair in your db certainly wouldn’t hurt.

WP doesn’t log anything but, depending upon your hosting package, you may have access to server error logs which would be worth looking at.
