Hi! You can use one of the plugins which create Webp from jpg and png and keep compatibility for older browsers without the support of this relatively new format.
https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/WEBp
Google is already working on Webp2 format, so, possibly it much more flexible way to use such plugins.
so you saying after installing this plugin I will be able to upload in my media library such files or by installing this plugin my media library contents are automatically generating web files?
thank you so much!!
You can upload usual files like jpg and png, etc (not SVG by default) and this plugin will convert them into Webp and also modify your content to make all inbuilt images with this new format and also compatible with old browsers. You can make these enabled/disabled on a plugin settings’ page if you want to keep this compatibility or not.
