When I change any settings in WP_Members it leads to a 403 Forbidden error. it seems to be only affect whem trying to change and save settings and not with anything else on our website

It is most likely a false positive from ModSecurity. Check with your host to see if they use ModSecurity and if so, ask them to set an exception.
