Sailing log theme

    I’m going across the Atlantic in a small sailing boat next year and wanted to set up a WordPress webpage that I could update at regular intervals (When I have WiFi) giving a daily log of what’s happening plus video of life on-board. I also want to write about the trip a kind of travel log of a lone sailor crossing oceans.

    But I can’t find a decent (Free) theme to fit the bill. It doesn’t have to be flashy, just something I can write to and show life on board.

    Any suggestions would be helpful.

    Decent? Fit the bill? What does that mean?
    It doesn’t need nautical elements, does it? Any theme will do; you make it fit by your content.

    Perhaps I need to be a little more forthcoming. I wanted a website that allows me to write a daily blog and add videos and write stories about life afloat.

    An on-line ships log if you like.

    Sorry to be vague but I haven’t had a site up before and I’m stumbling from one problem to the next. I suppose I’d better start with a sailing theme.

    For the same reason that you are vague, we can’t really help you. It’s up to you to figure out what it should look like, and then find that or make it look like that. The theme only displays the content, WordPress or plugins does the rest.

    Yes, I get your drift. Even If I used ‘Twenty Seventeen’ or one of the other default templates I’d still be in the same boat (sorry, couldn’t stop myself).

    So it’s down to the plugins to set up my seafaring exploits.

    I am a contributor of plugins and I also contribute to the making WordPress marketing team. The WordPress community is kind, warm, and welcoming. I think you will find that others, like myself are also sailors.

    If you search and do not find what you are looking for, be sure to join the Making WordPress slack community. I’d bet someone there can help – especially me. As this is an area of personal interest for me, if you ping me I’d be happy to lift a hand and help you find a good fit. I may even have something that could help.

    Also look at reaching out to Dawn Riley at Oakcliff Sailing – her team has some really innovative things going in preparation for the new Olympic Offshore Doubles event and there is some cross over in use case from what they are innovating to what you need on your solo trip across the ‘pond’ 😉
