posts not ligning up

I have an issue relating to my left floated side bar, and my posts on the main page. Currently posts seem to be justified to the right of the sidebar, but only as long as there is still content in the sidebar. Once the posts reach a point beyond this content, they justify to the left of the page, appearing beneath the sidebar. While extending the vertical padding of the sidebar provides somewhat of a fix, it messes up single posts, as it extends the overall page length making a lot of unnecessary white space, and pushing the comments box to the very bottom of this page. Does someone know of an easy fix that will justify the posts and comments to the right of the sidebar even when this is shorter in length.
