[Plugin: Post Teaser] Doubles processing time – extremely poor performance

On my blog, it takes 3.5 seconds to generate a 15-post front page without this plugin.

If I enable Advanced Excerpts, which is a similar plugin, the time remains about the same.

However, after I disable Advanced Excerpts and enable Post Teaser (which I prefer functionally), the generation time DOUBLES to 7.5-8s.

This is an unacceptable penalty and makes this otherwise excellent plugin unusable.

Any ideas on what’s causing the performance degradation?
