Trash feature eating CPU

I’m on a share host and have had problems with CPU in the past, however since the whole trash feature has been implemented they are growing. When I try to remove posts/pages in my trash, it takes a LONG time (talking minutes) with the page just staying the same and the load bar in the corner of the browser not even progressing. This only happens when I go to empty the trash. It seems like a useless feature to me. I would just assume be careful before deleting than having to add another step and additional CPU load.
