NexGen Album Problems

    Hello,

    I recently purchased and installed the Croma WordPress template for my website. Looks great. However, I used the already built-in gallery plugin called “Essential Grid” and noticed when I used the plugin, that page would load with a black screen, and only the header and footer would load. Nothing else. I refreshed it and then the pictures came in. The same applied for my Events page.

    So I decided to try NexGen for my Gallery. I used the pictures already uploaded and noticed the picture dimensions are all disarray with giant gaps inbetween pictures (http://andrewsearles.com/2-3/), compared to the simple boxed thumbnails as featured.
    So instead, I uploaded pictures straight into NexGen instead of using the ones already uploaded and it worked fine.

    Anybody else run into this problem? Is it just easier to reupload pictures using NexGen?

    This can actually be related to the setting used in your gallery display.

    Hi @andrewsearles,

    The problem is that the images aren’t of the same size and orientation and NextGen tries to arrange them into a 5 column grid where all the thumbnails have the same width so respectively for it to keep the correct ratio – the thumbnails will use auto height.

    To avoid that, you can force NextGen to crop the images ( but it will crop a part of the thumbnails ) and it will display a better grid with the thumbnail images of the same height and width. You can do so by editing the page, edit the NextGen Gallery module that you have inserted into the page, go to “Customize Display Settings”, select “Yes” for “Override thumbnail settings”, set a size for the thumbnails, set “Yes” for a
    “Thumbnail crop” then press the “Insert Gallery” button and “Publish” the page.

    If you want to be able to use combined portrait and landscape thumbnails in a better arrangement – you may be interested in going with a Pro gallery display type like Masonry or Mosaic.
