On the above page, the breadcrumbs is not working correctly and the url it takes us to is incorrect when clicking on the “Authors & Books” and the “”News & Events”. This began happening about a month ago and I was hoping with new updates it might resolve this issue. This is also happening on one other page but the rest of my pages seem to be working correctly. Any help will be appreciated!

  • @esweis We’re sorry to hear you are having difficulties with the breadcrumbs not working as expected.

This error may be caused due to that in an earlier version of Yoast 14.x, some data was improperly stored. If you reset the indexables, the data will then be stored properly.

To resolve this, can you please try the following steps?:

      1. Install & activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin
      2. Go to Tools -> Yoast Test
      3. Hit the “Reset indexables & migrations” button
      4. Run the following WP-CLI command: wp yoast index --reindex

Can you please try this and let us know whether this resolves your issue with the breadcrumbs?

Thank you for the help, unfortunately the breadcrumbs still isn’t working. I get a “this site cant be reached” error now and the URL is “localhost/news-events/”
This is my first time working on breadcrumbs so I am not very familiar with setting it up.

    Hello @esweis!

We checked the URL you provided and clicked on “Authors & Books” and “News & Events” on the breadcrumbs and they’re both working fine except that “News & Events” is still loading the HTTP (not secure) version. Can you please clear your browser’s cache and cookies then try it again?

    Hello,
Thank you for the assistance, I cleared my cache and cookies and the first breadcrumb “Authors & Books” and that one is now working. However the second breadcrumb is still having the same issue and is loading the incorrect URL “https://legacy.oppl.org/category/news-events/”. I am not sure where it is getting this URL from so I am a little confused regarding that.

Thank you again for any more assistance regarding this.

Can you please disable and re-enable the Yoast SEO plugin breadcrumbs from the Yoast SEO → Search Appearance → Breadcrumbs (tab) to see whether this resolves the issue for you?

If the issue persists, can you please disable and re-enable the Yoast SEO plugin temporarily on your site to see if that works for you?

Hello, I tried disabling the plugin and reactivating it and it seems to work on some of the breadcrumbs. But on the link below for example, when clicking on “News & Events” it still is loading the wrong url for some reason.

    Hi @esweis,

    Thank you for your reply.

Happy to hear that some/most links are OK now, but strange that it didn’t solve it on the page you are linking.

When you did the staps Carl mentioned earlier (with the Yoast Test Helper plugin), were you able to complete the reindex? Did it give any issues or error notifications?

Apart from that, there’s one more thing you can always try and that is flushing your permalinks under Settings → Permalinks. Just click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the screen without changing any settings above it.

    Hey Jeroen,

When I performed the steps Carl mentioned, it actually gave more issues and none of the links were working after the reindex. I performed that on our backup website just to test in case something went wrong so since it broke all the breadcrumbs I did not perform it on the public site.

I tried flushing the permalinks as well and no luck. So far it looks like the “News & Events” breadcrumb is the only one still acting up right now. Everything else seems to be ok.

Do you think I should try Carl’s steps again even though it messed things up on our backup site?

    Thanks for the help!

    Hi @esweis,

Sorry to hear that reindexing the site didn’t help the first time. You should be able to test this on a backup or staging site first to see the effects. Can you let us know the results?

If you’d like to try it again, we recommend making a full backup of your database and files just in case you need to restore it. Does this have any effect if you try it on the backup or staging site?

We are going ahead and marking this issue as resolved due to inactivity. If you require any further assistance please create a new issue.
