next page question

When I write some stuff it ends up being pretty long and I want to split it up into a couple pages. I searched and found the the nextpage code and put it in one of my post and when i vied the post it was cut off right where I put the code but there was no way to get to the “next page” or the rest of the post. am i missing something?
