I notice in a new install of WP2.9 the time zone setting asks what city is in my time zone but in an existing WP that was updated to 2.9 it still has the UTC settings. Should this have been updated? Did I do something wrong? Thanks

Do you have the automatic timezone plugin running? It is no longer needed.

Note: This plugin is no longer necessary in WordPress 2.8, because the functionality of it has been integrated into WordPress itself. If you’ve upgraded, you can remove this plugin.

all my other once (5 installs) do as well except for two of them it is not showing it. hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I just manually FTP’d the includes and admin folders with no effect.

    just found this…

    1. The reason one blog shows the old way and the new one shows the new way is a matter of PHP versions. The server has to be running a PHP version of 5.1 or higher to show the new stuff, since WP is using the new timezone support in PHP 5.

i am looking into getting a higher version of php installed

Ok thanks. I had already enabled PHP 5. For me it’s just a setting in cPanel.

I can confirm that city selection in the ‘timezone’ menu will not work with php 5.0.3. I upgraded to PH P5.2 and all is working now.
