Hi, I noticed that searches are not returning results for certain post categories and keywords. For example, if I search “talent”, no posts appear in the search. But if I click on the “talent” link (from the secondary menu—not the main menu), this page shows three posts that are categorized under “talent”. Also, if I search “excel”, no results appear. However, this post (https://exceling.excelsm.com/corporate/front-office-sports-best-employers-in-sports-award/) has the word “Excel” in the post content. Can you please advise on how to fix this issue?

    Best,
    Paul

I hope you are well today and thank you for your question.

Please create a new custom search form and use it as a menu search form by configuring the Menu Search settings as shown in this screenshot https://imgur.com/a/9pHdy19

Created a custom search form and applied it to the menu, but the issue is still occurring.

Nothing is getting searched on your website even the single character ‘a’.

Could you please temporarily deactivate the Ivory Search plugin and check whether the below page displays any search results?

That’s not completely true. If you search “Derek”, the correct post shows up in the results. If you search “Excel Sports”, the correct post shows up in the results. If you search a category, the correct results do not always appear. If you search shorter words, the correct results do not always appear. Just deactivated the Ivory Search plugin and that page is now producing many results.

It seems the issue of misconfiguration of the search form so could you please try resetting the search form by clicking on the Reset button of the search form?

    (@paulseaholm)

I reset the search form, but that did not do the trick. The only change I see is that search results are now showing pages, which I do not want. This search (https://exceling.excelsm.com/?s=corporate) using the word “corporate” did not return the post that is categorized under the “corporate” category (https://exceling.excelsm.com/corporate/). Searching “excel” still does not bring up that same post, however, searching “excel sports” does.

To exclude pages from search results, you have to configure the search form again after resetting it.

If you want to search posts by its category name then please make sure that you have configured the search form as displayed in this screenshot https://imgur.com/a/pdlwGkh

Looks like the problem lies in excluding pages from search results. If I don’t exclude pages from search results, the post categorized in “Properties” (https://exceling.excelsm.com/properties/) appears in the search results for the keyword “properties” (https://exceling.excelsm.com/?s=properties). However, if I exclude pages from search results, the post no longer appears in the search results for the keyword “properties”. How can I exclude the “properties” page (or any page for that matter) from search results while still getting posts to show up when their respective categories are searched?

Hope you had a good weekend. Wanted to check in and see if you knew of a solution for the excluding pages search issue.

Is “Properties” a post category and also a page name?

Does it work fine If you change with the post category name or a page name?

    Thread Starter paulseaholm

    (@paulseaholm)

Yes, the Properties page houses all of the posts for the Properties category. Don’t think we can change the name or category name. Could get confusing quickly with many related categories and category pages that have different names.

Also, regarding the search not functioning correctly, when I search for “talent” (https://exceling.excelsm.com/?s=talent), only the talent page comes up in the results. None of the posts categorized under “talent” appear (https://exceling.excelsm.com/talent).

I could confirm the issue on your website but it works fine for me on my website using the latest version of the theme.

This can be a theme issue used on your site so to confirm it just temporarily use the Twenty Twenty theme on your site. If everything works fine then it’s your site theme issue.

Also, this can be due to plugin conflict on your site so please try temporarily deactivating all plugins except the Ivory Search plugin and see whether everything works fine and then enable the plugins one by one to see which plugin is conflicting if any.

Looks like the appropriate Talent posts do appear in search results when using the Twenty Twenty theme. So is there anything I can do to remedy this or is the search plugin simply not compatible with the theme?

    Plugin Author Vinod Dalvi

    (@vinod-dalvi)

I am not familiar with the theme code that you are using on your website and there is no known compatibility issue with it so I request you to please contact the theme support to resolve it as it is the theme specific issue.
