Have you activated the “Use DataTables” checkbox on the table’s “Edit” screen? If yes, but you are still not seeing the search field, I assume that there are JavaScript errors on your site, maybe from the theme. Please check that in the error log console of your browser.

Regarding “making the table big”, you’ll probably have to adjust the theme, this depends. Unfortunately, I can not be more precise without seeing the page here.
