Chat Messages Getting Cut Off

    Hi Jeff!

    I’m having some trouble with my messages being cut off at a max character length of 200 even though I’ve set the max character length to 1000. Any ideas what might be going on here?

    Not sure. Are you using any cache plugins or similar?

    No, unfortunately, I’m not using any sort of cache plugin.

    Have you tried disabling all other plugins, switching to the default theme, and re-testing with only SAC? That’s a quick way to find out if something is interfering with normal functionality. Another way to do it, is to set up a new WP install, leave everything at defaults (plugins, theme, settings), then install only SAC and try again. Either way will help you track down the source of the issue.

    Jeff,

    Just ran a test where only simple ajax chat was enabled with a default theme and I am still unable to post any message beyond 200 characters.

    Hi John,

    Just to follow up with this. I increased the maximum allowed characters for chats. It’s now limited to 9,999 characters. In order for this change to take effect with the next version of the plugin, you will need to re-install SAC. Here are the steps:

    1. Make a backup of your database
    2. Visit the Plugins screen
    3. Deactivate SAC plugin
    4. Click to Uninstall SAC
    5. Re-install SAC

    Note that you can export your chat messages via the plugin setting “Export Chat Messages”. So you won’t lose any chats during the reinstall.

    Note also that there is a “Max characters” setting that enables you to further limit as necessary.
