2.9 from 2.8.6 failure: wp-app.php

    Could not copy file: /usr/www/users/username/sitename/wp-app.php

    Installation Failed

    Any ideas? Or wait for 2.9.1? I hear it is less troublesome…

    I think automatic upgrade first download the files in temp folder and then it moves to the user directory. If there is any problem with file/folder permission, you may receive such error. If your blog is down due to this error, I suggest you to do manual upgrade. Do not forget to take backup before upgrading your blog.
