homepage not displaying after install

    Hope someone can help. I just set up a new instance of wordpress on a new domain and completed the install OK. I got through to the dashboard, can create and publish posts OK. The only problem is when I go to my homepage the hosting providers temp homepage is still displaying.

    Did you install wordpress directly on the root or in a subfolder ?
    Do you have anywhere at the root level a index.html or default.html or whatsoever file (anything like index or default which is not the index.php from wordpress) ?

    Yes I installed in root folder and also yes I have another index file. deleting that seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks so much for your assistance Marie-Aude
