Check ‘Anyone can register’ under Settings->General->Membership.
Be sure to set the ‘New User Default Role’ to the role you want new users to have.
i did activate mine and test it with my other email account (yahoo! especially) and didn’t recieved any mail that contains the activation/password… any help pls
I have it set to “anyone can register” – but then I can’t figure out how people can actually register on the site. It appears you can just fill in name and email to post a comment, but there are no register options there…thanks for any help!
Your visitors have to register at: http://www.theresident.net/www.new.theresident.net/wp-login.php?action=register
You have to point your visitors there by placing this link in a prominent place
Ah, ok, thanks! I didn’t know how to create or find that link.
Thanks so much! After a user registers, how do they upload an avatar? I don’t see that as a profile option…
I really appreciate the input.
http://www.gravatar.com/
is how the avatar business works
Great, thanks so much! π
I’m having trouble with gravatars actually. I’d really just like to add the ability for users to upload their own avatar when they register, or any time after they register on a profile page or something similar.
Is there a community-building plugin like that for wordpress anywhere?
Thanks again for your help!
Thanks so much, the alkivia looks like what I want for sure. I tried add-local and it didn’t really do what I wanted.
One thing though – just installed alkivia and it says PHP-5 is required for this plugin. How do I know what PHP I’m using, where can I check that? Sorry that’s probably a basic question, I’m self-taught over here…
I figured that out, sorry. π Just needed to alter my .htaccess file. Now let’s see how alkivia works – will keep you posted. π
