My hosting provider just sent me a message saying my four websites may need to be shut down due to a large number of ‘stalled processes.’ The hosting tech concludes, “I have reviewed the above-mentioned processes and they are spawned by the Updraft plugin that you have installed…”
One stalled process (among dozens) that they listed is something like this:
    “***S Jul17 0:00 | | \_ /usr/bin/zip -n .jpg:.JPG:.jpeg:.JPEG:.png:.PNG:.gif:.GIF:.zip:.ZIP:.gz:.GZ:.bz2:.BZ2:.xz:.XZ:.rar:.RAR:.mp3:.MP3:.mp4:.MP4:.mpeg:.MPEG:.avi:.AVI:.mov:.MOV -v -@ /***/wp-content/updraft/backup_2020-07-17-2138_***-plugins.zip.tmp”
The *** replace site name/location. Three of my four websites are listed among these stalled processes like this.
They have asked me to disable and not use Updraft.
I have temporarily complied but would like to continue using Updraft. I’m not tech-enough to understand the problem.
Is there some setting I’ve gotten wrong?
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi,

Apologies for the delay over the weekend.

It is possible that your server has reached it resource limit usage. UpdraftPlus is designed to be dependent on your server resources to process these backups. Please ask your host/server admin if they can increase your server resources?

    Regards,

    Thanks for your reply.
There were 80 or more of these ‘stalled processes’. I don’t know why Updraft would even be making 80 processes in a day. Perhaps I misconfigured something, but it has been working for me for many months on 4 different websites and I made no recent changes.
I’ve left Updraft disabled for the last week or so and no more problems have occurred. If there is no easy solution, I’ll just have to disable it and trust my hosting site to keep good backups.
    Thanks for your time.
