Getting Most expensive shipping option only

I have some items that require a $16 version of shipping and others that require a $3.50 version of shipping. The problem I am having is if you have both items in your cart you have the option to select either shipping option. All of my shipping methods are set to the per order calculation type but you still get the option to choose which shipping method you want. Is there a way to fix this, or a plugin (preferably free) that fixes it?

If you’re using Flat Rate Shipping, you can define that the shipping costs should be calculated per order and should use the most expensive shipping class. You can find further information on the shipping classes in https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/flat-rate-shipping/#section-3. The option I’m referring to is called Calculation Type.

In this case, you might be facing a conflict with your theme or with another plugin.
The best way to determine if the issue is being caused by a theme and/or plugin is to temporarily switch your theme to Storefront (https://woocommerce.com/storefront/?aff=10486&cid=1131038) and disable all plugins except for WooCommerce. Finally, test to see if the issue is resolved by
To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, continue to the next step – reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict.

You can clone your site to a staging environment and perform tests without modifying your live site or impacting customers. Many hosts provide staging facilities, so it’s worth checking in with them. I was able to fix this. Essentially I was making multiple shipping methods per shipping zone and expecting woocommerce to just show the most expensive. When I deactivated the different methods and moved the price differences into the classes listed within a shipping method it would take only the highest priced shipping method as it should. I don’t know if the documentation just isn’t clear on this or what but I fully expected it to choose the highest shipping price out of all options, not just per method.
