adding an Index.html file blew everything up

I tried redirecting the home page to a static index.html file in the same wp-content folder as the rest of the site. Now I can’t access WP at all, no login, dashboard, default home page, anything.

I deleted the index.html and the accompanying css files from the server, but that doesn’t work. Looking at the dates on the server, I don’t see any .php files that have been recently updated.

Help, I’m locked out!
