I am seeing this error message on the home page and dashboard of my site:

Deprecated: wpseo_opengraph is deprecated since version WPSEO 14.0 with no alternative available. in /home1/madabou6/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 5098

    I’m using Yoast SEO 14.1

Can you help? I am not a developer. Please explain in simple terms. Thanks so much!

  • Hi @madestef ,

Thank you for using our plugin! We are sorry for any difficulties. We understand you are getting a message after updating your plugin to 14.1.

The message is expected that’s because we removed the filter wpseo_opengraph and replaced it with the wpseo_frontend_presenters filter on our Yoast SEO 14.0 release. This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/change-log-wordpress-seo/.

If you or another plugin or theme is using that filter, it will need to be replaced with the new one. We suggest contacting your plugin or theme authors for more information.

So let me get this straight.

Because YOU made this change in your plugin, I have to contact all the my plugin authors and the theme author AND/OR live with this message on my dashboard — and the HOME PAGE of my site?

Somehow that doesn’t seem very user friendly.

@madestef We do apologize for the problem, and understand that this can be frustrating. What we are recommending is that if you have a plugin or theme that is using a deprecated filter we advise contacting them as many either have an update that will address the issue, or are currently working on an update. We don’t recommend you contact all of them though, just the one that is still using the deprecated filter.

If you aren’t sure which is, you could perform a conflict check to see which is causing the error.

I know how to check for conflicts. It is a time consuming task and one that puts my site offline. All my plugins are up to date. You’re not being very helpful.

This is an issue you all created. It seems like it should be fixed by you.

I’m thinking the only solution to having this message appear on my HOME PAGE is to delete your plugin.

@madestef We’re sorry if you aren’t finding our responses helpful. Unfortunately we don’t know which exact plugin might be causing the error on your site, which is why we are suggesting performing a conflict check. Two common plugins we know of that might cause this error are PolyLang and WPML. Are you using either of those?

    Hi @madestef ,

We’re closing this thread because we haven’t heard back from you in a while. Should you have further questions, please open a new thread.
