bump (before getting lost)
If you de-activate that plugin, does it start working again?
Delete or deactivate the plugin via FTP or admin and try again. If you’ve been editing your htaccess file – from your other threads – make sure you are using the correct charcater encoding and line endings in your text editor.
Ah alism youre back to help me again LOL. If I deactivate and delete the plugin it still doesn’t work.
Hi songdogtech. All I did was delete what you saw in my last post.
“make sure you are using the correct charcater encoding and line endings in your text editor”
Forgive my amateur-ness but I’m not sure I understand what this means yet?
Haha, hello. Have you changed anything else? Done anything else?
You can always just delete the .htaccess entirely, and force WordPress to re-create it by re-saving your Permalink structure again (Admin > Settings > Permalinks).
Yer in safe hands with songdogtech by the way – he’s the man.
Hello,
Ya he looks like the man I can see it in his eye LOL
I can use your help songdogtech!
(forcing to change htaccess did not change anything)
or if you have any more idea alism lol of course feel free 😀
“he’s the man?” I appreciate that 🙂 though earlier today in another thread I was accused of being old! Maybe it is my eyes….
I’d just delete the .htaccess file and the plugin. If that doesn’t do it, I don’t know of anything else other than talking to hostgator. Alism?
Oh man I delete the .htaccess again and made sure the plugin was deleted…still no luck how the heck???
Damn! Alism, ol buddy ol pal?
Thanks songdogtech by the way!
“Old”? Nah mate. Experienced. 🙂
Starting to scratch my head a bit too. I can only think that you’ve inadvertently done something else, besides install that plugin. You’ve not changed any other settings? Edited your theme? Uploaded/changed any files? Changed permissions? Nothing else that you think might be relevant?
Might be worth switching to your default theme too just to rule that out, and try de-activating all your other plugins too in case there’s some weird conflict going on.
I changed my theme to default and deleted any new plugins. Still same problem.
Come to think of it, while trying to get my image uploader to work, I did give more permission to some files and I also uncheck the “Disable the visual editor when writing” box in myprofile
don’t worry I solved my own problem by re-uploading a backup!
why is this so complicated for me?
ok I deleted all the files through ftp and just re-uploaded them via ftp from my desktop.
the home page is there, but every other page says its a 404 error!
the only thing I could think of is that I didn’t restore the backup of my database (which I save to desktop using MYSQL), but I don’t think I ever deleted my database?
I just don’t understand why I suck so bad with wordpress but hey what would I do without alism?
help?
by the way in my wp-admin if i go to edit posts the content is all there!
Hmmm, ok. Try the simple option first: re-save your Permalinks (Admin > Settings > Permalinks).
Switch it back to the default option and save, then set up the new structure again and save again.
