What NextGen needs most, imho, is the option to import images by their creation date. Unfortunately, the “date” sort in the plugin sorts by the import date/time. I even tried creating a gallery using the option of leaving the images in the original folder, hoping that since the images aren’t moved, NextGen would use the actual image creation date. Unfortunately, it did not.

Is there any way to accomplish this? Please add this option, it’s important for folks like me who already have a large backlog of images, and like your plugin, but want to display the images by their creation date.

    Thanks for any help.

  • Hello @jamminjames,

    We are happy to help.
Here is the detailed information on how NextGEN Gallery sort images.
    https://www.imagely.com/docs/sorting-images-in-nextgen-gallery/

Could you please try to validate something for us?
Go to Gallery > Other options > Image Options.
On “What’s the default sorting method?” choose “Custom” and save.

Please, take into consideration that the date used by NextGEN Gallery is based on the meta-information of your photograph. If you need to adjust that date, you need to do it before uploading your photo.

The Custom method just allows you to rearrange them manually, right? We have far too many images for that.

These images were created on a computer and uploaded, so I don’t suppose they have that meta-info. I stand by my assertion that a “sort by file creation date” option would be a great addition to the plugin.

    Hi @jamminjames,

You can select “Date/Time” for “Gallery -> Other Options -> Image Options -> What’s the default sorting method?” and my guess is that this should order your images from your galleries according to the time when the images were created.

No, it does not. Of course, I already tried that. Thus, my conclusion that it must be using the upload date. It is definitely not using the file creation date (from before the upload.)

Oh, okay. I will be happy to add it as a feature request on your behalf in this case.
