    Hi! I just want to ask about the files that being compiled inside the wp-content/gallery/..

    The image were duplicated into different sizes. and another group of images are duplicate as back-up, my question for this is:

    1) what is the purpose of those back-up images?

    2) When I change the extension of back-up images to .jpg, which half the size of the original file, it can be open and same quality of the original file.
    Is there’s a way that the original images be replaced by this back-up files since the size of this are optimized?

  • Hi @artshinobi2323,

    NextGen will create different image crops for each uploaded image at the size specified in “Gallery -> Other Options -> Image Options -> What should images be resized to?” to use that image as lightbox image. Also, it will create at least one thumbnail image for each uploaded images.

    1) The purpose of the backup images ( you can disable the backup images from “Gallery -> Other Options -> Image Options -> Backup the original images?” ) is to offer you a roll-back option via “Gallery -> Manage Galleries -> Bulk Options” after editing or watermarking your images;

    2) The images that are stored with _backup extensions are the original images. You can control the quality and resolution of the generated by NextGen images from “Gallery -> Other Options -> Image Options”;

    Thanks!
