Lightbox plugin and Images

Hey I just installed the lightbox plugin (Version 2.8.2) and have now uploaded an image into my media folder, when I put the image onto a page it just shows normally not thumbnailed so when you click on it, it expands. When I make it thumbnailed it just shows the image smaller.. how can I get lightbox to work? :S
