    I tried updating our wordpress to the latest version and during the process I got a critical error say with a link to debugging wordpress. I totally lost access to the admin part of wordpress and to my website.

    There is likely an issue with your plugins or theme. Disable all plugins and your theme, then see if you can log in. I suggest the rename folder method over phpMyAdmin because it facilitates disabling your current theme as well. Locate your theme’s specific folder (not the overall /themes/ folder) and rename it as well.

    Once you can get into the admin area, restore the original folder names and activate your usual theme and plugins. When WP refuses to activate a module, it was the cause of the critical update error. Ask the dev of that specific module for assistance.
