Template “bps-form-sample-2” in version 5.3.x

    Hi,
    A client of mine warned me that the search form on his website was not working anymore, which is partially true. Due to the end of the support for old templates, the search form appearance changed and became ugly, with checkboxes instead of dropdown lists. I was using the template “bps-form-sample-2”, which is not supported anymore on the last release.
    So I had to revert to the version 5.2.3 to get the appearance back.
    In order to be able to update your plugin to 5.3.x (and keep the possible future security issues patched), is there a way to make this old template work with the release 5.3.x? Create a new template which will emulate the old one?

    Hi Gilles,

    Yes, it’s possible to make a new template that looks like the old one. You could start from the old one and ‘upgrade’ it to the new structure, or you could start from the new bps-form-default template and modify it to suit your needs.

    where the three sections of the new structure are explained; specifically make sure you return the correct values from the 2nd and 3rd section.

    Hi Andrea,
    Sorry for the late reply. I went back to this issue this week. I now have plenty of time as we are confined because of this @*!# coronavirus!
    I eventually created a new template in my child-theme, using the new bps-form-default as a start. Then I adapted the PHP code of the section 3 according to my needs. It is working fine. It is not that hard… once you get to figure out how the template works 😉
