So a few months ago I installed an SSL certificate for our site using ReallySimple SSL plugin and got our nice security padlock icon by the browser navbar. Highly recommend this plugin!

Unfortunately I updated WordPress versions, theme, and all of our plugins a few weeks ago and since then our padlock has been broken. The certificate is good but it says images are unsecure. A scan at www.whynopadlock.com revealed the following: “An image with an insecure url ” was loaded on line: 314″

As far as I know this image is just a little blue dot and not used anywhere on the site so I deleted it from our media library. Still broken. I ran a search and replace with Better Search And Replace plugin to replace all instances of http with https. No dice. I ran a search for that specific image url and replaced it with https. No dice.

I’m tearing out hair here. If I could just find line 314 somehow in text and just manually change it to https that’s what I’d like to do but for the life of me I can’t figure out how to view the whole site as text and locate line 314.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

…and I finally found the dirty little bastard image breaking my padlock. Still don’t know how to view my site in full as html text.

    Hi Jonathan,
I’m having the exact same problem for six images in a brand new theme that I bought and am trying to set up for a costumer.

Did you fix it and how/where did you locate line 314?

Tearing out my hair here too – wasn’t able to find anything useful online yet.

    Thanks in advance, much appreciated.

OK… just wanted to wrap this up since I found a working solution.

The problem was that my WP theme uses Elementor and apparently when importing demo content, some of this content does not have the HTTPS prefix.

I tried a lot of things; editing the .htaccess file, reinstalling the theme, installing another theme with Elementor where this problem persisted. I tried the Really Simple SSL plugin. Based on forum posts on the internet I tried to find the erroneous code in the PHPMyAdmin database. I tried using the Better Search Replace plugin.

    Nothing worked.

Finally I happened to re-read an article by Really Simple SSL where is says that the problem is common with Elementor-based themes:

    https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/how-to-fix-mixed-content-in-elementor-after-moving-to-ssl/

This finally solved it for me – and could have helped save 6 hours of hair-tearing if I had closely read what it said sooner. Hope it helps some one else out there.

    Best regards.
