PHP installation.. missing.. MySQL extension

I’m trying to install WP with an new host and running into issues I never had with the old. The error “Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress.” appears.
I’ve searched the wonderful forums and tried un-commenting extension=msql.so
but no change.

Would it have something to do with ‘extension_dir = “/usr/lib/php/modules” ‘ ? I don’t see this path up there and I don’t know where the extensions are so I can’t repoint this url…

Please could someone help
