• Regardless of what I’ve read in the documentation, the “link” quicktag does not work. If I use it, the URLs do not appear in my posts–there’s nothing but a single blank space there.

I’m using Mac OS 10.3.7 with Safari 1.2.4.

There’s got to be a more user-friendly way to insert URLs. Invision Power Board (www.invisionboard.com) can make this happen no problem, so we should be able to as well. But I am new to this, so I’ll understand stupidity, but I did RTFM. Thanks.

What version of WP are you using? WP’s quicktags work almost exactly the same as IVPB’s. Do you have javascript enabled?

I’m using WP 1.2.2. In IVPB, when you click on “link” you receive 2 consecutive dialog boxes, one for the actual URL, and one for the text that you want that URL to read as in the post.

When I click on “link” in WP1.2.2 I get only the first box for the URL, and upon clicking OK it inserts code like this into the post:
[less than]a href=”http://wordpress.org/support/rss.php?topic=19920″%5Bgreater than] (I had to interpolate the < and >) without prompting me for any other input. When I publish the post with that code, it appears blank (as a single space).

My install is at http://zealousagenda.com/blog. There is where you can see that when I paste a URL into the post, it does not turn into a link like it is doing with this post. The only link that is working properly is the one that the upload engine gave to me, that I pasted into the post.

    Yes, Javascript is enabled.

    Thanks for your quick reply.

I just registered as “testuser8”. Mind bumping me up to at least level 2, so I can see this first hand? If you bump me up to level 5, I’ll delete my test post after posting it too.

I’ve made you a 6 for good measure. I also made sure that any registered member can post.

    I appreciate your help.

It’s working fine for me. Here’s a quick run-down of the link quicktag just in case you’re not using it right.

    1. Hit the “link” button and enter your URL. This will produce a code that looks like this:
    <a href="http://www.domain.com">

    2. Now, notice that the link quicktag button displays as “/link”.

    3. What you need to do is enter your preferred word(s) for the hyper link after the code. Like this:
    <a href="http://www.domain.com">Domain Title

    4. Clicking the now named “/link” button will properly close the tag, leaving you with this:
    <a href="http://www.domain.com">Domain Title</a>

I don’t think you were properly closing the tag before.

P.S. Feel free to remove “testuser8” now.

Yes, I now understand. I do wish for the two-dialog-box method, but that is just from habit.

Thanks for resolving this so quickly.

    No problem, glad to help.

I don’t know if this has changed in the up-coming v1.5, but it might have. Just in case, you may want to file a feature request. http://mosquito.wordpress.org/main_page.php

I would add my voice to support a two-dialogue-box method of adding links as well. It seems cleaner, and is the norm for many different applications.
