  • Hey @gingermop,

Do you see any errors in the browser console when this happens?

    https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/troubleshooting/#how-to-inspect-the-browser-console

I know you mentioned that you’ve tried disabling your plugins, but this seems like something we’ve run into before with WooCommerce login pages. Currently, Two-Factor only supports the standard WordPress login pages. Can you please share the login URL where you receive this message, and perhaps a screenshot?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hi @wfgerald

Thanks for the reply… here’s the screenshot.

I’m not using Woocommerce or similar, I’ve always used the standard /wp-admin login as far as I’m aware.

I have enabled JQuery on my theme (which was disabled) and still getting the same message. Though I didn’t update the theme or any plugins when this started happening – I did move host, however.

    Any insights appreciated!

    Thanks

    Gina

    Hey @gingermop,

    Thanks for the update.

This really looks like some type of conflict to me. And I understand you’ve already checked for this, but can you please try one more time? Disable all other plugins and switch to a WordPress default theme. If you’re still running into the issue please share a screenshot of the browser console while they’re all disabled.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Thanks for the reply @wfgerald

I’ll give it another go and report back. Out of interest should I focus my attention on the JQuery error? I think my theme is loading it asynchronously, if at all.

    Thanks,

    Gina

    Hey @gingermop,

Yes, I believe the jQuery error(s) is going to lead to the root of the issue. Please do let me know what you find.

You might also pay special attention to anything you might be using to minify scripts.

    Thanks,

    Hey @wfgerald

Before doing anything else, I saw that Wordfence needed updating to version 7.4.6 this morning so went ahead and did that using a non-2FA admin login.

Then I intended to sort this issue out, only to find that 2FA is now working again on all admin accounts, without me doing anything – other than the plugin update.

I ought to mention this has happened before, without my updating Wordfence. 2FA gave me the same error, and the next day (with no changes or updates, not even updating Wordfence) it resolved itself.

    Still no wiser!

    Thanks

    Gina

    Hey @gingermop,

Ha! I like to know why things like this happen, but sometimes we just have to take the win.

Please do let us know if anything else comes up.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hi @wfgerald

It came back this morning 😮 after no changes, again.

No idea what would cause this random on/off but I’m going to look at it now. I do use a caching plugin to minify scripts so perhaps that’s a clue.

    Thanks again

    Gina
